FEMA Independent Study
Ham Radio License

Here is the FEMA Independent Study Program Course List as of January 2006.  (Follow link, click on NIMS/ICS Training Courses, then on IS Course List.)  I asked Bill to make this easy and suggest some classes new CERT graduates might want to take, and the order in which to take them.  Look for the RED ordinals below for his suggestions.

Note: Once a CERT graduate, always a CERT graduate.  You'll always have the basic training to help prepare you for emergencies.  That said, if graduates wish to be activated for any emergency, such as the last year's call for volunteers to help prepare a shelter, ICS-100 and ICS-200 will be required by October 2006, and IS-800 will be required by October 2007.

Ham Radio License

I recommend two books: Technician Class by Gordon West - contains the complete 510 question FCC Element 2 question pool effective until June 30, 2007, and Now You're Talking, 5th Edition, Level 1 Technician - "all you need for your first amateur radio license."

These books were recommended when I studied for my Technician License, which is the first license you obtain when you want to operate a ham radio.  They each approach things differently, even the study guide and test questions, so by using both of them, I was ready for whatever they threw at me.
